Kenosha Community Foundation Staff Profile: Amy Greil

Amy Greil, KCF's Executive Director, had never expected to land in “philanthropy” (What's That?) while growing up on a dairy farm in Waterford, WI. She went off to college and after, over the course of five years, lived abroad. While moving across parts of Spain, Italy, and India, she received her Masters Degree of International Government and Politics in Rome, Italy. But, by 2010, she turned back for home. She then began her professional life in the phenomenal public institution of UW-Madison Division of Extension in a community development field. With Kenosha County as her geographic focus of community-based education, she set off on an adventure of another kind; getting acquainted with the many facets of local life (and even established an arts nonprofit with then-KCF-Executive Director, Bob Schneider). A dozen years later while still in Extension, her life took another dramatic turn as she ran across a KCF grant reviewer volunteer, Kristen Guttormsen, who made the connection to her husband, KCF's most legacy Board member, Neil Guttormsen. Neil later invited Amy to an interview for leadership at KCF. That was 2022. She's since forged a renewed sense of home, professionally but also personally. Wholly supported by her husband, Ben, and their five-year old son, Robert, she is honored to guide this 100-year old organization into the next century! While KCF provides over $1M in grants and scholarships annually, she has come to know that KCF has limitless opportunity to serve a growing region.
